My life is simple. I hold to this one truth and it clears up so much confusion. The one truth is this:
Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so.
This is not scripture but so much common sense about belief is wrapped up into this child’s song.
- Jesus—the only Son of God, God himself, loves me. Jesus, the Creator of all that we see and don’t see, Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus, the great “I AM!”
- Love—Agape, the self-sacrificing love of God. This love which goes beyond the physical or emotional “love” that this world offers, is poured out upon me!
- Me—not my brother or my sister, but me! Me!
- This I know—how simple! How completely wonderful to know something to the core of my being. I know this better than I know anything else, and this knowledge brings everything that is good into my life: peace, wisdom, joy, direction, hope.
- For the Bible—that Book of all books! God’s love letter to His creation. Inspired—God breathed—into the hand and heart of its writers, the Bible is my anchor, my love letter from my Savior, heavenly Father, Creator, and Best Friend
- Tells me so—that’s why I read it every day. That’s why I study it every chance I get. That’s why I MAKE the time to study it when life gets too busy. That’s why I sit under its preaching every time my church opens its doors. That’s why I love it, believe it, and defend it.
It’s so simple and yet most people miss it. This world is confusing. This world is cruel. This world (kosmos—the world’s system of thinking) and its ruler, Satan, wants to ruin life. God wants to give life. Satan is the deceiver. God is the way, the truth, and the life. So simple! That anchor of simplicity holds me fast when the storms of life HOWL!!! That tower of truth allows me to rest at night and then face another barrage of confusion which life spews forth!
Won’t you join me in the simple life?
For they have [said], Peace, peace; when there is no peace. Jer 8:11
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments. Ps 119:73
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? John 14: 6-9
“Ah, but Wanda, your site is called Beyond Common Sense. Why is that?”
“I’m so glad you asked that. Because common sense tells you to play it safe and stay where you are. To have this simple comfort and security you have to go beyond common sense to FAITH! There is nothing commonsensical about faith! But all the blessings of God come when we step out in faith, trusting God completely—that what He said He will do!
Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Mt 11:28-30
His yoke: Faith and Trust! Only then do I have that Friend that sticks closer than a brother to lift my burdens and carry them for me!
Ah, and what if he hadn’t? The title of this blog is a quote from my all-time favorite movie, Ever After, and yes, it is a chick flick of the chickiest kind! It is the true Cinderella story, and this:
is Danielle, or Cinderella; however, she never would have gotten here if our dear prince would have stood by his words:
I WILL NOT YIELD!!
She would still look like this:
Little “Cinder-soot,” as her step-sister, Margaret, calls her.
I will not yield. That is a great statement if you are being asked to do wrong, but when the Spirit woos us, pleads with us to give up a bad habit or wrong attitude, we will forever regret our unyielding ways! We will stay on the ash heap of sin, slaving for our master, Satan. He promises so much and NEVER delivers!
Yielding – it goes against the very grain of our fleshly pride! We CAN’T yield: What would others think? It will never work out if we yield. Certainly I know better than…God?
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
It takes a lot of courage to yield, and a lot of faith. It takes honesty and commitment. It takes time and patience. Sometimes, it takes blood, sweat, and tears. Oh, but the joy of standing before our precious Prince of Peace, our Bridegroom, in brilliant white – spotless and wrinkle-free! That’s the goal, folks: yield and we become princesses! (or princes! 🙂 )
