Who am I? So many labels can be applied to any of our lives. I'm a born-again follower of Jesus Christ, a pastor's wife, an author, mother, grandmother, musician, and blogger, and podcaster. "Beyond Common Sense" is a place where I share "Lessons Learned While Walking with Jesus." I have found that not only is God everywhere, but He teaches us through our experiences and common, ordinary examples from His world. From the inchworm to the tragedy of my husband's fall, all of these hold timeless truths handed to us by our heavenly Father to draw us closer to Him. How wonderful! What a privilege to share some of those lessons... with you!

A Psalm of Life by Henry Wordsworth Longfellow

Found this today. How beautiful! How right! Tell me not, in mournful numbers,Life is but an empty dream! For the soul is dead that slumbers,And things are not what they seem. Life is real! Life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal;Dust thou art, to dust returnest,Was not spoken of the soul. Not enjoyment, and … More A Psalm of Life by Henry Wordsworth Longfellow

Two Sides of the Storm

May 24, 2020

These words from Spurgeon’s “Morning and Evening” are a blessing and a warning. So well put!! Morning – Day 56“The wrath to come.” It is pleasant to pass over a country after a storm has spent itself; to smell the freshness of the herbs after the rain has passed away, and to note the drops … More Two Sides of the Storm

What is Godliness?

May 15, 2020

God, through Paul’s pen, calls it a great mystery, but the mystery is not HOW it is to be done. The great mystery is that we, mortal beings, can enjoy and display godliness because of Jesus’ great sacrifice! … More What is Godliness?

Spirit Rock…Cleft Rock?

Did you know that a Spanish coin with $500,000 dating back to 1715 was discovered off the coast of Florida in 2015? Hmmm. A gold coin…Did you know that in 1962, $60,000 would be the equivalent to $500,000 today? What will Jack Kilgus do with those coins if he finds them at Spirit Rock?
