I Did It! I Did It!

Ever since I wrote “Spirit Rock” I have wanted to climb up and see it. Well, I did it yesterday, thanks to my son-in-law and daughter! Every year, they make the trek as a family, and this year I was able to go along. It was quite a hike, but I made it! (I didn’t move too fast the rest of the evening though.)

It was well worth the climb, and as always, there was a lesson for me, actually several:

  • Don’t be old before your time. I thank the Lord for the good health He has given me. If God wants you to do it, He will give you the strength you need THAT’S TRUE WHATEVER YOUR AGE!
  • Don’t be stupid. Seth had warned me that the end of the climb was steep, even needing to use ropes which had been tied to several trees. He was right! But it wasn’t out of my range of ability.
  • Carpe Deim–“Seize the day.” While this Latin phrase can be taken out of context or mean something opposite to a Christian’s line of thinking, it should be considered. As I get older, I have found that the days become more important because I don’t know how many I have left! (While prepping for my colonoscopy, I was sharing with the nurse that my doctor said I probably wouldn’t have to have another one. While I was glad to hear it, it does make you wonder what they are saying! LOL!)
  • “Make the day count.” That seems like a better motto, doesn’t it? Count for what? Well, as a born-again believer, I should think it would be obvious: count for the cause of Christ.

So, did climbing a mountain with my family have any bearing on the cause of Christ? Well, the hiking–no, but the conversations may have: “A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold In settings of silver” (Proverbs 25:11).

Is there something you keep putting off or just never get around to doing? I’d challenge you to get to the “bucket list” and start emptying it! And along the way, don’t forget to shine!

“Let your light so shine before men,
that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16
