2020 Hindsight

We’ve all used this term, usually when something has gone wrong and we are now looking back, realizing that the outcome could have been different if we had known what we now knew. 2020 hindsight is actually useless because we can’t know the future… or can we?

December 31, 2020 is 336 days away. 8,784 hours. 527,040 minutes. When we stand on the threshold of 2021, will we look back over those days and hours with regret?  Will we wonder where all those little minutes went? And, can such thoughts actually affect the outcome? Yes, and no. As born-again believers, we understand that our days are in God’s hands.

So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. 1 Corinthians 3:7

Certainly, we are to use our time wisely. In fact, Moses, the writer of Psalm 90, the prince of Egypt, the scholar from the great schools of one of the most prominent nations of his time asked God for help in this:

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90:12

Paul tells the Ephesians to see then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise (Ephesians 5:15).

We can’t have fore knowledge on how a situation may turn out but we can walk “circumspectly,” checking to make sure we are doing the right thing. If you have ever walked through a cow pasture, you understand walking circumspectly! You are careful to step in the right places!

God actually gives us 2020 hindsight all through the Bible. As I read the Bible on YouVersion I color-code verses to mean different things: blue=blessings, green=action items, gray=warnings from God. Aqua are verses that include promises with a qualifier. These are the 2020 hindsight verses!

For example:

ReferenceDoBlessing/Curse
Proverbs 14:30A sound heartis the life of the flesh
but envythe rottenness of the bones
1 Kings 11:38if thou wilt hearken unto all that I command thee, and wilt walk in my ways, and do that is right in my sight, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did and build thee a sure house, as I built for Davidwill give Israel unto thee.
Proverbs 8:34-36is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doorsBlessed
For whoso findeth mefindeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD
But he that sinneth against mewrongeth his own soul
all they that hate melove death.

God keeps EVERY promise He ever made! He WILL bless and He WILL curse. So make this year the BEST year ever by walking circumspectly.  Start each day in God’s Word, asking for His direction for the day.  You may face the most challenging year ever in 2020, but it will be the BEST year if you stay close beside your heavenly Father. After all, how can we stay under his wing if we are walking ahead or behind Him?

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. Psalm 91:1-4

Under His wings I am safely abiding.
Tho’ the night deepens and tempests are wild,
Still I can trust Him; I know He will keep me.
He has redeemed me, and I am His child.

Refrain:
Under His wings, under His wings,
Who from His love can sever?
Under His wings my soul shall abide,
Safely abide forever.

Under His wings, what a refuge in sorrow!
How the heart yearningly turns to His rest!
Often when earth has no balm for my healing,
There I find comfort, and there I am blest. [Refrain]

Under His wings, oh, what precious enjoyment!
There will I hide till life’s trials are o’er;
Sheltered, protected, no evil can harm me.
Resting in Jesus, I’m safe evermore. . [Refrain]
