Purple or Brown?

It might not work for you, but it works for me. I use different-colored markers to highlight verses in my Bible and phrases in my devotionals. Each color signals a different topic and guides my eye to find words I need for different occasions.

Redsalvation
PurpleGod’s attributes
Blueblessings
GreenTo Do List (Action items)
AquaBlessings for doing

For example, when I need a word of encouragement, I go to the blue verses. Blue stands for blessing from God. When I need a reminder of purpose, I go to green. Green shows the “to-do” things God gives us in His Word. Purple displays the attributes of God.

This morning, the lighting wasn’t very bright, and when I reached for the purple marker, I pulled out the brown one instead. My eye was tricked because of the lack of light.

Isn’t that what Satan does all the time? He puts out his brownish, lying counterfeits to lead us away from God’s majestic purple mountians of truth. It may be an action that we know is sin, but Satan shades it just a little and deceives us. It may be a false doctrine, and all the while he is whispering his same old lie: “Is that really what God said?” He shades our world in murky brown.

But God is light, and “The Light of the World is Jesus.”

The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin;
The Light of the world is Jesus.
Like sunshine at noonday His glory shone in;
The Light of the world is Jesus.

Refrain:
Come to the Light; ’tis shining for thee.
Sweetly the Light has dawned upon me.
Once I was blind, but now I can see.
The Light of the world is Jesus.

No darkness have we who in Jesus abide;
The Light of the world is Jesus.
We walk in the light when we follow our Guide;
The Light of the world is Jesus. [Refrain]

God’s light turns the drab browns into glorious shades of purple. His light reveals the true color within our souls.

Is Old Scratch giving you a hard time? Is he deceiving you about something? When questions arise, aren’t you glad the Truth (Jesus) speaks to us every time we open His Book?

“Jesus said to him, “’ I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me'” (John 14:6, NKJV).

And don’t forget:

“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5, NKJV).
