“Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. [He made] the stars also” Genesis 1:16 (NKJV).
This past week in our Earth and Space science class, we have been watching the debate between Ken Ham and Bill Nye, which aired ten years ago. It was informative, encouraging, frustrating, and sad all at the same time! Ken Ham did a wonderful job presenting the creationist point of view, showing patience through all the repeated accusations. Sadly, Bill Nye did not have “ears to hear.” It was more of a religious debate than a scientific one, because both views of origin science must be taken by faith. Several times Ken Ham made the point that we cannot use observational science to explain the origin of this world or the universe. We can observe what we see today and compare it to “near” past observations, but to apply them beyond that, takes faith to believe. Sadly, evolution makes too many assumptions to make their conclusions plausible, which is what Ken Ham stated over and over.
James 1:17 (NKJV) “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the…
- Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
- (AMP) Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes].
- (NLT) God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.
- (NIV) Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
When I read this verse this morning, placed on the background of all these thoughts swirling in my head, I saw something so wonderful! Not only do we see yet another verse attesting to God the Father creating the “lights,” we see that He NEVER CHANGES! Yes, stars explode and burn out. Yes, the universe is spreading out (which is also stated in Isaiah 40:22 and Hebrews 1:11,12). We also know that “heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away” Luke 21:33 (NKJV). However, God doesn’t change even a little. He stands there, like a beacon of hope, sure and steadfast, proving again and again that His way is not only perfect but never changing. Praise the Lord!
As born-again believers, we have so many blessings, but the greatest is a promised, secure, without-a-doubt future home with our Heavenly Father, Creator-God, and Savior! AND, that ‘supreme being’ offers guidance and strength to each of His children every step of the way.
