Constancy

“It’s strange to think that it’s the same sun that rose on the third day of creation,” I said as we watched the sun rise above the oceanic horizon.

“It’s the same sun that Adam saw his very first day of existence and Moses and our parents and great-grandparents.” I was on a roll, while hubby patiently listened.

“And it will be the same sun that our great-grand children see!”

The thought brought comfort and peace, it was a wonderful reminder of God’s constancy.

Coupled with the never-ending swish and thunder of the tide as it crashed and caressed the shore, my thoughts flew upward in praise to our amazing omnipotent God.

I hope you have moments like that: to “be still” and know that He is God. For me, trips to the seashore always do that: They make me stop and think and worship. Oh, how sad and how shallow to worship the creation instead of the Creator!

Recently, I enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by a chef. It was a casual setting, so I went to the kitchen and gave him a “Paul Hollywood” handshake. HE was responsible for the delicious food. My crazy imagination conjured up the opposite:

“Oh, you wonderful piece of chicken. You have combined yourself with such amazing spices and covered yourself with this awesome sauce! You are so talented!”

Too funny, but oh, so sad!

Do you know Him?

This Christmas, as we celebrate the amazing birth of Jesus, be sure to worship Him for who He is. He is not just a great man or wonderful teacher or even just the Son of God, He IS God! It’s beyond my understanding, just as much as those constant ocean waves and rising sun are beyond my understanding. Rest in the constancy of Who Jesus is and why He came. Know Him. Trust Him. Worship Him—the King of kings! Receive Him! “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12).

“That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death” (Philippians 3:10).

“And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life”(1 John 5:20).

Constancy—may the realization that HE will be here for our children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren long after we are gone give you a peace that passes all human understanding!
