Gross! Who wants to do that? We’ve all had the pleasure of fishing out the elusive bit of shell from the edible part of the egg, but to actually eat the shell of an egg—who’s crazy enough to do that?
Just as the eggshell’s sole purpose is to store the good stuff, so the church building is only the edifice which houses God’s true church—YOU!
So, how are you—God’s church—doing? What is your purpose? I’ve been asking myself that question for the past several days and doing a bit of soul-searching AND Bible research to help form an answer. One thing is certain, God has given His church a very unusual opportunity to bring forth this truth. With the Coronavirus closing down the world, the church buildings, or the shell, have been closed as well, BUT the church still goes on. Praise the Lord! Whether through small groups or live streaming on the internet, believers all over the globe have gathered and carried on the purpose of Sunday morning “church”—to worship God and hear His word.
When Jesus met with the woman at the well, they had the following conversation:
She said, “Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.”
Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:20-24).
As another Sunday rolls around, I must say that I miss my wonderful normal of being in God’s house on Sunday. It was strange to think that last Sunday’s-stay-at-home scenario is normal for so many! I can’t even imagine that! If that has been your normal, why don’t you take advantage of a streaming broadcast if a local, Bible-preaching church and in the privacy of your own home, take a look at what you have been missing! And then, when the doors open again, take the plunge and join the church LIVE!
Hopefully, we will all be ready to be back in our buildings, but even more so, we will be ready to be back fellowshipping with other believers FACE TO FACE! 🙂
“Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”
